Democracy for Hong Kong

Thousands showed up for a demonstration demanding democracy in Hong Kong from their Communist masters.

Godspeed to them. It always made me angry that the British didn't do more to help make that happen before just turning Hong Kong over. It's one area where the Thatcher and Major governments really fell down, in my view.

I think you're laying too much responsibility on Britain, frankly. The U.S. hasn't had much success in that vein either, and we're a huge part of China's powerful economy.

When the United States decided to be the United States and form a democracy, it came from the inside out. While we got help from the French and Germans, it was merely help. I think that you can't rush Democracy, and right now it looks like the actual people there are starting to be ready to make it happen.

I think we are. I think it's time. I don't blame the British for not giving us democracy but I don't forgive them for ruling is for as long as they did either. I think they didn't fall down they uplifted and continued the great tradition of the British empire.

I think we are. I think it's time. I don't blame the British for not giving us democracy but I don't forgive them for ruling is for as long as they did either. Why would they give us democracy? The reason they were there in the first place was that they were colonists? They didn't "fall down" as they uplifted and continued the great tradition of the British empire. What's so suprizing about that in any way? Empire is not about giving rights and freedoms to people. It's about keeping it away from them for economic reasons, and Britain did very well and continue to do very well in terms of HK.

I am kinda sick of the way Britain's PR machine had created this "belevolent" leader ideal about who they were in terms of HK. When the got us, they had a rather large gun pointed at China. And yes, it's true that they prevented the place called "Hong Kong" from all the traumatic histories of China like the cultural revolution, and that it wouldn't exist because it's would still be a fishing village, but the only fact HK is as rich and Britain is as rich as it was a side door into China. Whatever it is. Does not make it RIGHT they ruled us. Does not make Empire ambitions, and hegedomy right in any way.

They should never have been here.

Since they were, they did us well.

But that doesn't make them belevonlent.
