PETA Violence

Darmon Thornton notes that some PETA members are now openly advocating terrorism--blowing up banks, throwing bricks through windows, etc. Click his links, some of them are spooky.

I take the same position he does, by the way. Cruelty toward animals is something I find vile, and I'm frankly glad there are laws about it. I would even go further and state that I honestly think some of our meat-raising practices in this country could be made less cruel. All that aside, what infuriates me the most about groups like PETA is that they are an embarassment to sane people who care about animal cruelty issues.

This is one reason why, whenever I mention PETA, I go out of my way to mention the real organization that advocates ethical treatment for animals: the SPCA. Unlike those PETA slimeballs, the SPCA is a responsible, caring, ethical organization, and I support them wholeheartedly.

"And understand! PETA is out there. It can't be bargained with! It can't be reasoned with! It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead!"

That's it! I'm buying a new leather jacket today and eating veal for dinner.

The director's sound bite cracked me up especially because HE WAS SERIOUS. What a damn pussy!

But veal is an endangered species. They have never succesfully raised one to maturity in captivity or gotten them to reproduce.

I am real sorry to see PETA get so radical. I do believe in the very beginning of their organization they set out to do some fine work and they let greed and complete insanity rule them.

You mention a fine group that I do care about and know many people adopt their animals from them. I am the owner of two little kittens myself that I got from a local animal league.

I think you were actually quite kind when you called PETA slimeballs.

If PETA was ever the kind of organization Janelle mentions, it was very long ago.

I'm sure some of you have seen their annual questionairre, with the question "are you aware that the vast majority of all animal testing provides no medical benefits whatsoever?" or something very close to those lines. That's literally a textbook example of the logical fallacy, complex question (the classic example being "when did you stop beating your wife?"). In '95 I took a college course on symbolic logic which had that question and another in it, in the section on fallacies and identifying them. I'd seen the question myself on the questionairre at least a couple years earlier.

can we buy hunting permits for PETA and ELF types? I think the Govt should allow that.

Given that, according to the stated ideology of these radical egalitarians, a human being is of no more value than a bug, is there anything they will not do?

So, what you're saying is, I may havbe been on to something, eh? Hell, I was only half-joking.

Just another example of the modern left - a hybrid of "watermelon" (green on the outside, red on the inside) and the more generic anti-human way of thinking (they love humanity, but we individual humans get rather tiresome).

It is, of course, rather hard to define these people - "the left" is a handy moniker, but its really a bit beyond the old-line classifications - there is a day of reckoning coming between the two rapidly distancing sides...on the one side are those who think that the human species is essentially a crock of shit (with the exception being, of course, those who believe this...they being just oh, so much smarter and wiser and more loving than most of us) and those who think that human beings are, well, human and are what they are.

I just read something that totally cracked me up. A quote from folk/pop singer Jewel: "Isn't it funny that so many heroin addicts are vegetarians?"

Just say no...to folk/pop singers who fancy themselves poets.

It's easy to advocate kindness to animals while turning a blind eye to human suffering . . . animals seem amoral, bound by instincts, incapable of being other than what they are. Thus, they seem to deserve pity. Because humans are saddled with "knowing better than to [insert atrocity here]", they're "sullied" in the minds of radical animal rights activists. They see human beings as a global disease that needs to be cured in order for earth to survive. If you've ever driven through Gary, Indiana, there's a kernel of truth to that perspective, though their proposed solution is as ridiculous as the disease.

I'm a "humans first" kind of person, and that's why I'm for environmental protection and conservation . . . not for the sake of the animals and plants themselves, but for the sake of the human beings who live on this planet. I don't want a planet where life is merely sustainable. I want a planet where life is enjoyable. For me, at least, you can't have that without green spaces, clean air and water, and thriving ecosystems.

If that makes me a "watermelon" or whatever ridiculous term your readers choose to coin to satirize that with which they can't argue, that's fine. Those of us who love nature and its bounty (including meat) will see our point of view borne out in the long run, for good or ill.

It is sane and rational to want to preserve the earth and the life forms found here. I don't think too many earthly inhabitants are in favor of the opposite. BUT the argument over how best the earth be preserved has deteriorated to the point of silliness on both sides maybe. We cannot have extremists from either side of the debate in charge of the utilization or preservation of our natural resources or the beauty of nature itself. How is this all going to end? Badly, if political influences are allowed to keep the war over the environment going on much longer.

F**k PETA. I don't agree with cruelty to animals and think it is wrong, but this is going too far. D**m anyone who is willing to commit terrorist acts over animals. I'm sure that if anyone is to attempt terrorism against the U.S. they are surely to be crushed. If terrorism is what some are willing to go to, then thay are no better than Osama or Sadaam. They are filth and deserve to die. I place humans over animals anyday. Anyone who protests to save a tree needs to take a trip down South, because there are plenty of trees and they aren't going anywhere but to the paper they use to write with and the wood that supports their houses. Animals have been hunted and used for thousands of years and will continue to be used to benefit the human race. If harming an animal will save my life or another human being's life so help me God I will do it. Other than that, mindless abuse of animals and waste of resource from animals is wrong. I think that all of you PETA supporters should go hug a bear to try and save it. You need to be attacked by animals. Go to Siberia, where you will be hunted by tigers, then what will you do? Die before harming an animal? Well, f**k that.
God Bless Our Country

Oh, and PETA stands for People Eating Tasty Animals. Gravy! Stupid protesters, when will you learn that your protests influence no one, or not me at least, although at times it is quite entertaining to watch the stupid things people will think up. People will make decisions on their own. Go eat meat and vegies to get the essential nutrition needed, or PETA fans, eat shit and die.

I'd get a clue if I were you and realize that the very animals you defend are breaking the very prnciples you support. So go home.
