White Christmas (Rosemary)

Well, it's snowing. Not enough to be annoying or hazardous. Just enough to have a pretty little white Christmas.

YAY!!!!!!

While driving home, from my mom's house, Dean and I heard what we thought was a pretty Christmas song from a country singer I didn't know. He has a great voice, btw. Thank goodness Jake was sleeping in the back.

You wanna know why I was glad my sweet little boy was asleep? Read the words to this lovely little Christmas song.

It was almost Christmas time
There I stood in another line
Try to buy that last give or two
I'm really in Christmas mood
Standing right in front of me
Was a little boy waiting anxiously
Pacing around like little boys do
And in his hands he had
A pair of shoes

And his clothes were worn and old
He was dirty from head to toe
And when it came his time to pay
I couldn't believe what I heard him say

Sir I wanna buy these shoes for my Momma please
It's Christmas Eve and these shoes are just her size
Could you hurry Sir?
Daddy says there's not much time
You see she's been sick for quite a while
And I know these shoes will make her smile
And I want it to look beautiful
If Momma meets Jesus tonight

They counted pennies for what seems like years
And cashier says son there's not enough here
He searches is pockets franticly
And he turned and he looked at me
And he said Momma made Christmas good in our house
Most years she just did without
Tell me Sir
What am I gonna do?
Some how I gotta buy her these Christmas shoes

So I lend the money down
I just had to help him out
And I'll never forget
The look on his face
When he said Momma's gonna look so great

Sir I wanna buy these shoes for my Momma please
It's Christmas Eve and these shoes are just her size
Could you hurry Sir?
Daddy says there's not much time
You see she's been sick for quite a while
And I know these shoes will make her smile
And I want it to look beautiful
If Momma meets Jesus tonight

I know I won't regret some help as he thanked me and ran out
I know that God sent that little boy to remind me
What Christmas is all about

Sir I wanna buy these shoes for my Momma please
It's Christmas Eve and these shoes are just her size
Could you hurry Sir?
Daddy says there's not much time
You see she's been sick for quite a while
And I know these shoes will make her smile
And I want it to look beautiful
If Momma meets Jesus tonight

I want it to look good
If Momma meet's Jesus tonight

Obnoxious as hell.

I had voted for "Reindeer" as worst Christmas song. My wife things that one is the worst Christmas song. She's been in a folk group longer than we've known each other and she things it is one of the worst tearjerkers she's ever heard. She also feels that there's not a bit of authentic feeling in it.

Also: Does Jesus really care what you look like when you go to meet him?

Man, this is a tough crowd.

Sorry, the comment truncated (above). I'm not having much luck posting here...that preview button seems to erase the comments I try and submit.

Its a lovely song...just glad I haven't heard it, as I'd probably lose it...almost fell apart when we sang "Silent Night" in church last night....

Yeah, it sounded really pretty. I hate songs that make blubber like an idiot. That one got me.

That is a darling song and I have heard it many times. Dean, SMACK! I just got you in the forehead!!

To a little boy there is nothing in the whole wide world like a mommy or his Tonka truck, (I am getting ready for a wise guy). Anyway, that is a special song.

Bob Carlisle is a Christian singer. His best known song is called Butterfly Kisses and its about a father's relationship with his daughter. The refrain goes as follows:

"Butterfly kisses after bedtime prayer.
Stickin' little white flowers all up in her hair.
'Walk beside the pony, daddy, it's my first ride.'
'I know the cake looks funny, daddy, but I sure tried.'
Oh, with all that I've done wrong, I must have done something right
To deserve a hug every morning, and butterfly kisses at night."

He has a website at www.bobcarlisle.com. The Christmas shoes song is about how the boy feels about his momma, not about what Jesus thinks.

Maybe the song would be more complete if the donor came back a while later and saw the kid getting a refund, then going and picking out another pair to get back in line and find another mark. :p
