When it was announced from the pulpit this morning by my pastor, I wept with relief and joy. I had heard no news of his capture before attending church. My heart is filled with pride for our guys and gratitude as well. I love each and every one of them. Wow...this is too much.
We love you too, Dean. It's been about 48 years since I was a member of the US armed forces, and I never came within even one-tenth of one percent of helping accomplish anything so significant as pulling that rat out of his hole in the ground. But I get a lump in my throat every time I think of the United States Army that I was a part of back in the early 1950s. Fourth Division (mechanized), you guys -- and girls -- have earned your place in history, like your brothers did under the colors of the old Ivy Division back on Utah beach in Normandy that great and terrible June day back in 1944.
May the people, the armed forces and the Constitution of the United States be blessed forever.
