Muslim Barbie
Well no, she's not really Muslim Barbie, but she is the equivalent of one. To my surprise, I find that she's the creation of a firm in a town very near to me, too.
I suppose some will go spastic and start making all sorts of snide remarks about Islam and Burkas and whatnot. But just for the record? As one of those squishy humanist types who respects any religious faith that is tolerant of others, I think it's pretty damned cool. I wish the company luck with it.

"It doesn't matter if you're tall or short, thin or fat, beautiful or not, the real beauty seen by God and fellow Muslims is what's in your soul,"
Take that, Barbie.
The only problem I have with women in Burkhas is their lack of peripheral vision. I am a cyclist and I have lost count of the number of times I have narrowly avoided being mown down by a Burkha-clad lady who just can't see me...
or it could just be women drivers ;)
Some of those have been sent to the Chief!
I want a Christian Barbie!
How can you not like the smile on that girl?
I did not know a doll like this was available. It's funny but I never did have a Barbie when I was growing up. I just didn't care for them.
It's nice that Plunge said some were being sent to the Chief and I agree with Sean, the smile on that little girl!
Oh and yes dowingba...I am going to plug in lots of microphones all over the country for you and get masive speakers and amps for you!! TELL EM MAN!!!
Thanks for the reference :)
Just fyi, I don't think in most Muslim countries they wear Burka anymore (except of course where ever oppressive regimes reign), it has come down to the headcover called 'Hijab', which is the samething worn by Muslims in America... and that's what the girl and her doll are wearing.
I agree with dowingba. i also hav a question for Wince n Nod- how wud u dress a christian barbie differently?
