Neither of you are nerds. I like both Star Trek and Star Wars. I'm the nerd.

The answer is much more complicated than that... Dean is a nerd because he likes Star Wars, you are a geek because you like Star Trek, and I am a freak because I like Stargate-SG1.

Sweet, another SG-1 fan! I will submit that Farscape was better than Voyager and Enterprise, a lot better than the Star Wars prequels and a tad better than SG-1.

Just my personal feelings.

Dean is the nerd.

Peace and Long Life, Rosemary.

Well, I must exist in a nerd dimension of my own, because I like Star Wars (I remember watching the original trilogy when it first came out in the theaters), Star Trek (I remember watching the original series as a kid when it first aired on TV), and other such nerd ventures as Doctor Who, The X-Files, and even the Japanese anime series Neon Genesis Evangelion. Et cetera. Et cetera. Et ad-blooming-nauseam cetera.

I see nothing wrong with liking either of them, as long as there is none of the substitute-for-a-life fixation one encounters now and again.

Me? I'm on a higher plane. I like the Honorverse.

I like Babylon 5 because I am a libertarian nerd. Can't stand the statism that seeps from every pour of Star Trek. Dr Who is rather fun too.

Firefly, people.

Rose,

I take it that you've never been to a Star Trek Convention? There are just as many, if not more, Star Trek geeks as there are Star Wars geeks.
I love them both.

1 part GEEK + 1 part COOL = Normal

Just kidding, I'm a geek and proud. Hell, I even play an online video game based on Star Wars. Now only if Star Trek had one of those...

Jerry:

Seriously, geek is not the same as Nerd.

Who's the nerd? Dean or me?

Posted by Rosemary Esmay on November 25, 2003 at 9:59 AM

If either of you has any Star Trek or Star Wars stuff, like Spock Ears or a Light Sabre, then you are nerds.

Or, if either has ever been to, or ever wanted to go to, a star Wars or Star Trek convention, then, the nerdness also applies.

Dunno, Rose; do you wear the ears?

If you wear the ears, you're a geek. Otherwise you're just a nerd... :)

I think you have to hand the overall geek title to the Trekkies, since they've actually made a movie about them. No one's done that yet for the Star Wars fans. And, what do you call a SW fan? A "Warsie?" :)

Dunno how you define me: don't wear the ears, prefer the original Star Trek over TNG, but I love Star Wars. Can't stand nearly any of the books based on either series since most of those goobers can't write (except Diane Duane).

I built an Enterprise model and named it after Dean (did you ever glue that thing back together?), but I also have the Millenium Falcon and two different versions of the X-wing on my shelf, to be built "someday."

So what does that make me? :)

P.S. I also have a half-finished Saturn V and a Jupiter C rocket on the workbench and some of the old Willy Ley/Werner von Braun '50s models on the shelf too...

Nerds rule.

Casey:

I have the ears.

I only wear them during sex because Dean likes it.

I have a phaser remote control, a Bajoran tricorder that the toddler broke, and a ST communicator, still Star Wars (the original series, not hte horrible second series) was far and away superior to Trek.

Firefly was neat, and B5 was good (except for that last year or so), and Farscape was mostly good, and Blake's 7 is nice, and Red Dwarf is good (in small doses, or it gets too depressing).

ST:TNG was the best Trek, although the original still can suck you into it with astonishing speed despite all of its flaws.

I have run an RPG game with Jar Jar Binks as the avatar of Cthulu, and I claim to be a proud gamer geek.

Now as to Rosemary's question. It is more likely for a Trekkie to be a geek than for a Star Wars fan, but such a like is not conclusive.

Rosemary,

I clicked the link. It was absolutely hilarious! My wife came into my office, wondering what I was laughing so hard about. Then she started laughing uproariously, too. No spoilers, folks, just be sure you have the sound up on your computer (and a broadband connection).

Thanks, Rosemary - I haven't laughed that hard in a long time.

Rose,

Of course Dean is more of a nerd, but I didn't necessarily need Triumph the comic dog to confirm it. The slam dunk was a few weeks ago at Halloween when Jake went out as Darth Vader. Dean commented on Jake's costume to a friend (can't remember the dudes name ) and they both started talking all philosophical about Jedi..
That was very nerdy!

Ok, break it up people. Put your action figures back in the basement and STEP AWAY FROM THE LIGHT_SABER. You're freaking me out man!
Shit, at least no one mentioned Battlestar Gallactica. I'm voting you all off my island of sanity. And yes, that is my final answer.

Oh, felgercarb!

Posted by Dean Esmay on November 26, 2003 at 12:09 AM

How can you distinguish, both star wars and star trek suck royally. I say anyone who watches either can be considered a nerd... : )
