The New Dean's World Pledge

Henceforth, there will be absolutely no new articles on Dean's World which mention Michael Jackson. Furthermore, we are going to attempt to make Dean's World a Jacko-Free Zone.

You can say anything you want in the comments to this thread. But we otherwise pledge, upon pain of public humiliation, that for at least the next six months, there will be no discussion of Michael Jackson whatsoever. Indeed, anyone who so much as mentions Michael Jackson (except in the comments to this article, where you can get it out of your system if you need to), anyone who so much as mentions The Silvery-Gloved One's name will be mercilessly mocked as a "Jacko-Off."

We invite other webloggers to make a similar pledge.

Thank you. From the bottom of my heart. Thank you.

What brought this up?

what's a michael jackson

Posted by random_prose on November 20, 2003 at 1:15 AM

A thing that infects children...like on the Exorcist.

' anyone who so much as mentions The Silvery-Gloved One's name will be mercilessly mocked as a "Jacko-Off."'

Weeelllll... That explains the glove, anyway...

Fine with me - I think it's pointless, and more than a little presumptuous, to speculate on the matter anyway.

I will freely admit that I don't know whether Michael Jackson did anything inapropriate and I have absolutely no reason to make assumptions on the matter.

I think it's for the courts to decide, not me. People should do well to remind themselves of that fact of themselves as well.

Strange, they "settled" last time it was brought up, because the prosecution had enough evidence to prosecute. Then they drafted a law because of Michael Jackson. I'm interested to see how the pedofile gets out of it this time.

I have many reasons to make assumptions as to his guilt. He has admitted many times, freely, under no duress, that he shares a bed with children quite often. "I always ask if it's alright with their parents." Yeah fucking right. What kind of horrible parent would allow their children to sleep in bed with any strange adult, let alone an incredibly disturbingly strange strange adult such as the one-gloved wonder.

blooming kiddy fiddler...wouldn't get that kind of krap in my day...the reason the Jack Off wears a glove is because not only is he Peter Pan, and as such likes bumming tiddles, but is also Luke Skywalker...as demonstrated by his affection for his not-quite ewok friend bubbles the chimp...hmmm so what's been going on here then. Soon he will be dressing up in wizards robes and asking kids if they want to ride his broomstick...

I accept the pledge. (Wasn't going to touch this topic anyways!)

Good on yer, Dean!

Posted by Donald Sensing on November 20, 2003 at 7:48 AM

I am just calling him "Fingers". I shall not mention him on Dodgeblogium.

Posted by Andrew Ian Dodge on November 20, 2003 at 8:55 AM

I don't what your problem is.

The guy was a great point guard for Georgetown, a four-year starter who was one of the reasons the Hoyas got to the NCAA title game two times in 84-85. The guy was clutch.

I was looking forward to Michael's "Ones" collection which was to be released on Tuesday, the day of the Neverland Ranch raid. Now I guess I'll have to figure out something else to give the kids in the 3rd-grade gym class I volunteer assist at.

Just kidding.

I swear I haven't seen such google-whoring since the Internet first emerged from Al Gore's private lab...

And what's wrong with Michael Jackson anyway? His book: "Michael Jackson's Beer Companion: The World's Great Beer Styles, Gastronomy and Traditions" (Michael Jackson, obviously being a famous beer afficionado) and "Michael Jackson's Great Beer Guide" are classics of the genre!

Thank you.

If only the news outlets would do the same - and include Scott Peterson and Kobe Bryant too.

Dean, I think you're making a mistake here. May I suggest an ongoing thread reserved for cruel and malicious Michael Jackson jokes?

Like the one Leno told last night...

What does Michael Jackson call a kid in McDonalds uniform?

A Happy Meal.

Nope. Too juicy a target. Besides, I already broke the pledge. :-)

Joining the Jacko-free zone.

But if something really good about Paris Hilton comes up, I may have to cover it.

My quick calculations predict I will spend about 20% more time here, therefore.

I'm with WildMonk, I don't know how I'll get through these six months without a reference to Michael Jackson .... I need a beer.

Yeah! Rah! cis boom bah!

Hey Dowingba:

How does it feel to be exactly aligned with me on an issue? I think this is one of the signs of the apocalypse.

He's guilty. He's been guilty. It doesn't matter if the court prosecutes and convicts him this time any more than it did last time. A broken thermometer doesn't change the real temperature, it only misrepresents the real temperature.

If he had been innocent, he would have cleared his name in court instead of paying off the pimpants (we can't really call them "parents," now can we?).

Oh, thank you!!!

I am wondering when "Fingers" Jackson and Gary "Leader of the Gang" Glitter are going to do a duet.

Posted by Andrew Ian Dodge on November 21, 2003 at 8:24 AM

Yeah, and in truth, what more can be said about this story? Yeah, he was accused of touching that boy in 1993. Yeah he seemed to buy the guy off. I am sure by now you have heard the fox news stories of how the whole thing started.

Yeah, yeah he is a freak. Dawn he is one ugly white girl. Oh, wait, he is a boy? and black? sorry, huh? Oh well. I liked mancow's comment: he looked like a made up corpse.

Yeah, and at the very least he never should have been sleeping with children, even if they were only sleeping. And what the heck were the parents thinking?

Anything else? well a few scattered details, but not really much to it. Jackson is innocent until we actually see the evidence, but let's face it, we know it our hearts he is probably guilty. in the court of public opinion, he is sunk.

I was tempted recently to buy Thriller, to see how good it was; it was a little before my time (just barely). Now, i don't think i can in good conscience. Its like when I was at my fiance's catholic church, and they passed around the plate for donations. I thought to myself: would this go to the poor, or to lawyers who would fight tooth and nail to hurt children who had already been hurt? I am not interested in that kind of guilt trip, you know?

But is there really anything of substance more to be said.

Oh yes, the media is overcovering it. I mean in terms of long-term impact, the Turkey bombings were much more important. Hell turkey day next week is more important.

Posted by A.W. on November 21, 2003 at 1:24 PM

Actually, A.W., over at NRO they just started a discussion about the concept of "innocent until proven guilty." Lord knows I never thought about before.

But if you look, there really isn't anything in the Constitution, or the Founding Fathers major writings about this. It's a bit like the concept of "separation of Church and State" that grew up later; an interpreted position.

I think that disgusting perv it guilty as hell. And for those who say that Jacko-ff settled out of court 10 years ago because he couldn't take the pressure of a trail, well, check out what happened last year when someone sued him for millions of dollars. Mister "Michelle Phiffer in drag" showed up regularly in court, and displayed little stress. In fact, he rather seemed to enjoy the publicity...

'Nuff said.

Hopefully, the "accusation" against Michael is untrue. If it is,then there are two laws to follow. One is man's law and the other is God's law. by the way...judge not...lest you be judged. Haven't we all heard something that goes like this: Let he who is wihout sin cast the first stone? I for one will not cast a stone. I would be afraid it would come back in my face. I haven't received a letter from God or anyone else giving me permission to be the judge.
