Horrid
So, in Pennsylvania, some poor schlub was falsly accused of raping a girl. She confessed to making the whole thing up because she was afraid of her mother.
Now here's the interesting thing: the media feels no compunction against publishing the guy's name, but still does not publish the name of his false accuser. Who, at this point, is a confessed criminal, and probably ought to do jail time for her crime, or make some other form of serious restitution.
Ah well. That's the press for you.
(Thanks, Combustible Boy.)
* Update * CJ reports that there's more to the story. So, now I have no idea what to think. Never mind.
The press, the parents on both sides, the lawyers, the list goes on.
One embarresed girl, I told some tales in my youth, but this one destroys a young mans chance of getting some real good jobs with a police record...Stupid press!
Remember Tawana Brawley? Remember who her champion was?
I hope that charges are filed against this girl. This is horrible.
At least she did do the right thing at the last minute. How many men are in jail because of women who didn't?
You have no idea how boring it gets reading incessantly-presented tawdry details about the sex lives of post-juveniles.

When she's charged, I would imagine that any respectable television station or newspaper would report her name. I'm frankly surprised her name wasn't used in this update, unless it hasn't been released by the police.
Wow... Dean... now that I've done some checking, you're really missing the story here!!! This guy was CONVICTED of rape, despite the 11th hour decision to recant.
Check out the whole story from the Philadelphia Inquirer.
It reports:
Lungin, who already had shown guests a videotape of himself having sex with a former girlfriend, then played a videotape a friend had just made of him inserting a vodka bottle, a candle, and other items into the passed-out teen.
"People were laughing; people were videotaping. This was a show. ... ," Deputy District Attorney Jennifer Buck told the jury in her closing argument. "What 17-year-old girl is going to [consciously] let someone do this to her?"
--------------------
Sounds like there's a reason her name hasn't been reported. She's a rape victim.
The woman testified Wednesday that she permitted Lungin to violate her with objects including a candle after the man asked if she would be willing to try something "different, kinky."
So how exactly does it work if she gave specific prior consent, but was unconscious/asleep when said activities took place? I think it is wrong to do stuff like that to an unconscious person, but if there was specific prior consent, maybe it shouldn't be criminal? That's just wacky, in an insane sort of way....
Okay, dowingba, now you're starting to worry me. You don't have any problem with an unconscious 17-year old being violated with things like a candlestick just because months later she decided to recant something that was caught on tape?
Ask a lawyer, why are you asking me?
Wow, a pornography-liquor-videocamera party? And one involving present members of the opposite sex? Yeah, that's a great place to start taking off the clothes with no fear of morning-after confusion as regards actions and consent. [/sarcasm]
No offense, but if you want to get upset on behalf of a false rape accusation, pick a guy who wasn't actively setting himself up for trouble. I'm no fan of the "she was asking for it" victim dismissal but a person who makes very bad judgment calls and suffers for them will naturally receive less sympathy -- mourn my loss of a wallet and prosecute the mugger, but are you really going to let me off without a tongue-lashing for waving around a $5k wrist-watch in THAT neighborhood?
In short, the girl was an idiot for drinking ANYTHING amongst guys watching self-porn, and the (falsely?) accused male was an idiot for performing sexual acts on an intoxicated girl.
Sounds like the guy was convicted for being a sleaze bucket, which he was. But I'm with Dean -- I don't know what to think on this one.
