Ya Think?

Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy (D):

Ever since we landed in Baghdad yesterday, I've been amazed at the morale of our troops. I talked to one soldier who said even though we haven't found the weapons of mass destruction, he's convinced that we are in Iraq for the right reasons. He felt that the conditions that the people of Iraq were facing under Hussein were so bad, that even being here just to help them free their country was reason enough. I've got a lot of reservations about the run up to the war in Iraq. Poor intelligence, lack of a coherent message from the Administration and a faulty plan for winning the peace are all problems, but seeing our work with my own eyes has been helpful. We're doing a lot of good over here.

The Professor has more you should read.

You Americans really have it bad. To have a Senator join in Bush'propaganda campaign. The GI who told the Senator that he was to be in Iraq and the Old regime was bad. He did not mention that his buddies were returing home in bodty bags, or that Americans in Iraq were at best un-invited guests. Remember an un-invited is someone who is not welcome anywhere in the world.
My advice is take the boys home out of trouble.

Hey Kenneth:

Your advice is pretty bad. Got any stock picks you'd like to share? I'd like to short them.

Gee, the recent Gallup poll says 2/3's of the Iraqi's want us to stay until things get better. To leave now would be to fail the Iraqi people twice and encourage our enemies. They are all expecting another Somalia. When Saddam assumes ambient temperature, things will get a LITTLE better.

That 'GI' ought to qoit the Armed Forces and join a social sevices organization if that's the sort of work he wants to do. The military's sole purpose is the physical destruction of our country's declared enemies, not road-building, well-digging food-serving or drying the tears of pint-sized stinkpeople. Do it on somebody elses' dime, Schweitzer; you want tax-dollar support, or any other kind for that matter, kill and destroy and then leave. Oh, and make sure
the killing and destroying is in the interests of this country and it's citizens.

Dean, I'd like to request an IP check.

"Kenneth T. Ellis" and "Original intent" sound like the same rambling, nonsensical, punctuation-abusing, double-posting dilwad. Though perhaps--given their apparent divergence of views--they are different faces of one individual with multiple-personality disorder.

Please to verify.

I see that Kenneth T Ellis is also posting on Healing Iraq blog and his spelling hasn't improved. I agree, Kenneth T Ellis & Original Intent are suspiciously similar.

I think the dem party ought to forbid any of its members, especially elected officials, from going to Iraq. It apparently makes them useless for domestic political purposes.

Those Democrats who have been to Iraq and seen the results of our actions may well prove to be the nucleus around which the party heals itself after the Asswhupping of Ought Four.

It is good that another democrat listened to how just one soldier felt. It is good that she repeated the story and it got some exposure.

It is good. Day by day. It was said, it will take time. This is good.

Dean,
Thanks for the heads up on Ms McCarthy's weblog. I am not sure but I think she was one of the reps against intervention in Iraq originally.

I assume everyone here knows her story about how she became a US Representative.

Her log is enjoyable, down to earth interesting reading. She writes on a personal level, not a stuffy "political" one.

I like her blog more than the Healing Iraq weblog in fact.

In response to the cynics above. Your point about the point of Armies is correct. Our troops our still fighting a guerilla war, and with the support of most of the Iraqis. We don't want to rule the place with a military run government and social services. We did the same thing in Germany after WWII.

And mark this -
Our success or g-d forbid failure will determine the course of future in the Middle East and the world in the next 20 years, a course that could if not successful, lead to catastrophic results.

SO INSTEAD OF BEING A MORONIC CYNIC, LIKE HOWARD DEAN, YOU AND I SHOULD BE THINKING OF ANYWAY WE CAN SUPPORT THE TROOPS OVER THERE LIKE -
Taking up donation drives of for instance movies, and other things the troops could enjoy on down time.

"I assume everyone here knows her story about how she became a US Representative."

I think I do, but I'm not it's wise to assume that everyone does. Wasn't she the brainaic who ran for Congress after deciding the Colin Ferguson had killed her husband and injured her son because New York doesn't have strict enough gun control?

Original Intent,

The MAIN purpose of the military is to fight and win our nation's wars. We usually do this through superior fire-power, superior tactics, and superior troops. However, if we can win the war AND rebuild a nation in the process, we will go one step further my forging friendly relations with potentially rival nations and interests, thus preventing or limiting future bloodshed and unnecessary life. As a career soldier, I'd gladly help rebuild a school or a hospital if I knew that 20 years down the road, my children won't have to go back and fight again.
