California's Burning

Some rather horrific fires are burning in Southern California. For detailed first-hand reports and photographs, go read Mrs. du Toit and Citizen Smash. Smash has more photos here.

Um, why is this the lead story on national newscasts?

Because it gives good pictures?

'Cause, really, very few people outside of California give a rat's ass about this.

I'm just saying.

Expletive deleted, Mr. Rubyan. The whole country gave "a rat's ass" when the World Trade Center was destroyed, including people who had never in their lives been near New York City. I'm safe up here in Washington, but hundreds of people are losing their homes and everything they have. Millions of people live in southern California, so if you ever expect anyone to ever give a rat's ass about _you_, you damn well better give a damn, show some sympathy, or at least have the decency to shut the [expletive deleted] up.

Yes, Steven. I've been thinking about it and you're right. I made a stupid comment. Sorry. Really.
