I've experienced irrational hatred of an opposition president, only it was me doing the hating and Reagan and Bush I were the presidents. I saw how many Republicans acted towards Clinton. Then I became a Republican. Now I see how many Democrats act towards Bush. I think it is akin to the hatred many Red Sox fans have towards the Yankees.

Jonathan Chait's TNR opus has done the discussion a huge service by summarizing most of the bang-the-spoon-on-the-high chair justifications for Bush-hating. This saves everyone a lot of time, for the alternative is having to digest Al Franken, Michael Moore, Maureen Dowd and selected foreign policy experts in Hollywood.
Rebuttal is largely futile, and wicked parody is more fun anyway. Frank J. has done a commendable job with this piece, and I encourage him to continue mining this rich vein.

I've experienced irrational hatred of an opposition president, only it was me doing the hating and Reagan and Bush I were the presidents. I saw how many Republicans acted towards Clinton. Then I became a Republican. Now I see how many Democrats act towards Bush. I think it is akin to the hatred many Red Sox fans have towards the Yankees.

I would venture a guess that the majority of Americans do not hate Bush, or Dean, or France. They may not agree with (them) all the time, but most Americans are rational and put things in perspective.
