Blogspot Exodus Continues

Just for the record, my offer to help get people off of Blogspot and into their own domains and blogs still stands. I've got another one I'm going to be setting up this weekend. I've really never stopped.

Now it looks like some other folks are making a similar offer, and looking for volunteers to boot. Shoot Kevin some mail, shoot some to me, do whatever it takes, let's just get folks off of Blogspot!

It's been a while since I exodused from Blogspot. Google has at least made all the Blogger "pro" features for free now, and may very well have stabilized the servers a bit. Until Typepad starts their "Free" service, I'm not sure Blogspot is such a bad thing anymore. Of course, this coming from someone spoiled by Movable Type in the past few months.

I don't use a SQL blog type, I use a cgi-bin blog type and I really like it. It's Grey matter from Noahgrey. It's easy to use, and all you need is a cgi-bin which ever is your domain name. You should try it.

I've not only moved away from blogspot, I moved away from Moveable Type. I wrote my own ASP.NET system that makes it easier for me to deal with comment spam. I can see a list of the last 50 comments posted, pull up anything suspicious with one click, ban the commentor's IP address with another click, and delete the comment with a third. And if that's not enough, I can close an article to further comment without hiding the previous comments.
