The Next Big Thing

Rosemary and I were interviewed today by Amanda Aronczyk of The Next Big Thing, a show syndicated on Public Radio International. The subject: people who switch political affiliations.

It was fun, although a little frustrating at times. They recorded at our house, and the mics they used were super sensitive, so any time a plane flew overhead or our son made a little noise, we had to stop talking. Since we live near an airport and our son is almost 6, you must imagine we had to stop a lot. A half-hour interview took an hour to get done.

Out of that, they'll probably snip out all but a few minutes. Given Public Radio's reputation, I have this sinking feeling we'll hear nothing but the minute or two we talked about taxes ano none of the 10 minutes we spent talking about education, social security, gay issues, or the difficulties of running a business when the government is so hostile to the self-employed. But maybe I'm just a cynic. ;-)

They were pretty cool people. And what the hey, it's always nice to be the center of attention.

For those of you who care to hear it, the show will air some time in October. Since it's syndicated, you'll have to check the schedule of your local public radio station to hear it. Here's a list of stations that carry the show. At least, in America. I have no idea if "Public Radio International" actually airs outside the US. ;-)

I got the call letters for the station. I put it on my calendar.
