Hollywood Political Wars (Justene)

The left wing of Hollywood is taking on Schwarzenegger (warning: link likely to expire soon) and discovering the law of unintended consequences.

Along with Hanks, pot-loving actor Woody Harrelson is set to join the fight against Schwarzenegger. "Woody is diametrically opposed to Arnold Schwarzenegger's political positions," a spokesman for Harrelson told PAGE SIX. "He does not support the candidacy."

Diametrically opposed? Since Arnold is pro-choice and pro-gay rights, what does that say about Harrelson?

Lets just say that the presumption is that someone who is as prominent in lefty circles as Woody probably is also a bit socially liberal. He may be pro-life, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Really what this all shows is that the HollyLeft isn't anything more these days than just another arm of the DNC...along with the public-sector unions, race-hustlers and trial lawyers....and it also fully explains the collapse of Democratic Party power over the past ten years. With a coalition like that to run against, even the Stupid Party can roll up Congressional majorities year after year.

You know, like Colin Powell and Condi Rice aren't really black, or GWB isn't really pledging $5 billion to stop AIDS in Africa.

I don't care what political party you're affiliated with (I'm not affiliated with any), if you're on the side of the rights of homosexual men and women -- at the _very_ least, their right to be left alone! -- then you're on my side, to that extent at least. If you're for "sodomy" laws, then you're my enemy.
I support Schwartzenegger. He looks like the best of the bunch, I haven't seen better here so far.
California had another Hollywood actor as their Governor once. He later brought down the Evil Soviet Empire and gave us Justice Anthony Kennedy: "At the heart of liberty is the right to define one's own concept of existence, of meaning, of the universe, and of the mystery of human life."

You forgot to mention that among those leading the howling set against Arnold Schwarzenegger is one Cybill Shepherd, on and off actress. She hints darkly that Schwarzenegger shortly will face all kinds of trashmouth revelations, the specificity of which she would not yet reveal.

This is the same Cybill Shepherd whom Gray Davis admitted that he had a soulful and passionate time with on a Hawaii beach 36 years ago, in the summer of love in 1967. She, I read, has confirmed this. Except, I understand, it began earlier in the previous year.

Well my curiosity caused me to look up Ms Shepherd's and governor Davis' dates of birth. Her's on the Internet Movie Data Base (IMDB.COM) and his in his biography posted online. And what do you know?

Cybill Shepherd, born 18 Feb 1950, was only 16 years old when Gray Davis, born 26 December 1942, began screwing around with her, soulfully and passionately (if the Sacramento Bee and other news sources have it correct).

So what are we looking at here? Statutory rape with a juvenile is probable. Along with contributing to the delinquency of a minor. (There are laws about this stuff in Hawaii, and even in California, aren't there? If not, why is Roman Polanski still in exile to avoid prison time here? What do they do with attorneys and governors who sexually diddle with teenage girls?

My wife suggested that from what the newspapers said, she may have screwed the life out of the poor man, which is why he appears do dull today.

So go ahead, Hollywood lefties. Live it up at Ahnold's expense. But just remember. Those of us on the Right also have our claws and fangs and know how to use them.

Are these some of the same people who said during the last administration that what happens in a person's private life is not important?
Of course I guess if you are a republican then things that, say Bill Clinton can get away with would not apply to you.
There are very few things I like less in this world than hypocrites but shallow, holier than thou, hypocrites are one.

How sure are you of those dates? If its correct that a 24-25 year old man was diddling a 16-17 year old girl then this is political dynamite...

It leads to two things: Either he was depraved as young man or, much more likely, the whole story is fabricated between the two in order to try and humanize Davis.

In NY in the 70s, 16 was the age of consent for purposes of statutory rape.

The age of consent now in most states, including Hawaii, is 16. With stitpulations and crap.

So really I think the Gray/Cybill thing is a non-story.

Roman Polanski, OTOH, plied a 13 year old girl with drugs and alcohol and had sex with her unconscious body. That is why he was convicted of rape.

Oh, I wasn't thinking about statutory rape - but about the absurdity of the attempt at making Davis less of the Gore-bot that he is.

Thats the dynamite - the final, absolute and incontrovertible proof that the man is an amoral, power-mad jerkoff.

Perhaps it is not the particular issues that these people object to Arnold on but rather the fact that they feel he is not the person to correct the problems that are ailing California. Judging from the rather weak rhetoric and non-platform I don't know if I would vote for the guy and I agree with many of his positions myself.

Another issue I'd like to hear Woody elaborate on is how his views on gun control are "diametrically opposed" to Arnold's. So far, the most specific statement Arnold has made is that he favors "sensible gun control." Does this mean Wood opposes "sensible gun control," or that he supports "senselss gun control" as an alternative? How about 120-day waiting periods for anyone born on a Tuesday?
