Bushenstein

You know, when James Taranto said that Democrats had veered into self-parody with this Bushenstein animation, I thought he was probably over-reacting. It sounded pretty funny. But nope. It's got all of the subtlety and comedic wit of an Oliver Stone film. Democrats have become so shrill, they only parody themselves.

Here's a clue, guys: To do good satire, you have to go over the top and exaggerate things, but with a wink and a nod. When you miss the wink and the nod, you're no longer funny, and you lose a lot of your potential audience.

Truly. I was actually ready to enjoy it for what it was, but found it to simply be mean-spirited and dumb.

Very disappointing.

The Democrats are getting exactly what they want out of these animations. They don't pay a dime to get them on TV, or other publicity.

Conservatives dutifully point them out with outrage, the lefties who hate W are all like, "cool, good one, man, they got ol' monkey boy down cold!"

Democrats get a pass on the whole "mean spirited" thing, so noone goes around and says "look, I told you they just want to kill grandma" or whatever.

Lame.

Well, this is a lot like the social security parodies from a little while back. The Dems ran one and the Republicans ran a counter-parody, so I'm expecting the Republican counterparody to this anytime soon. How about "Senator No," with Miguel Estrada strapped to a gurney about to be sliced in half with a filibuster beam?

I like how they had to subtitle what the monster was saying, because otherwise we might have missed it.

All the subtlety of a sledgehammer...

I would not have believed it had I not seen it myself. The DNC needs a reality check.

Posted by Cacique on June 17, 2003 at 8:31 PM

Those Dems seem to have degenerated into mocking he 'image' of W they have built in their own minds, instead of W himself. To draw a straw man is a method of debate, but when you start to believe in the straw man you've made yourself, you simply look stupid and out of touch with the real world.

The DNC couldn't get Leni Reifenstahl?

In the Republican retort Lieberman can be cast as Nosh-feratu. Actually I thought it was pretty funny, I hope the Democrats continue to spend their brain trust (loose change) on this type of attack.

Houston, I think we found the problem....

From your IP address, I'm guessing you're collateral damage from a block against "Aaron Shoaf" of corparmor.com. (Although that address isn't listed in SPEWS; must be another blacklist.) Complaining to anhosting.com about providing spam support services might help the situation.

"Right wing values are un-American"? Holy McCarthyism, Batman!!
It's got no beat and you can't dance to it -- I give it a 12.

I actually found it funny in a sad pathetic manner, at least up until the end of the spot when it turns into a stupid sounding ad. But it's not going to win them any votes, because it's not saying what they're going to do. What it may work as is a get out the vote and unify the base ad, it certainly has that tone to it. In which case they're at least 1 year too early. Besides not being what I think they need to do to actually win the election.

I will take people at their word. This is what they said, this is what they meant.

Mean-spirited and dumb is what we have all come to expect from Democrats these days. I cannot I believe I am actually hearing a reasonable liberal voice, Dean, calling the Democrats for what they are. I guess this shows the Democrats are finished for 2004. Stick a fork in them. They're done.
