That's 45 new Movable Type weblogs.
I have five others I'm currently working on, which will bring it to an even 50. On one or two of those, I only had to do some of the work while another system administrator did most of it. Also, a couple wound up on Hosting Matters, since to help convert Dr. Frank I had to learn how to do it there. It's not as easy as Verve, but it's not too hard.
Keep in mind, some of these people only got online today, and others are still learning.
Now I'm thinking about closing my offer because I'm getting tired. I may do a few more but I'm thinking of declaring at least a temporary moratorium. This has been fun, but I need a break. ;-)
By the way, if I missed anyone in my enumeration above, please let me know!
I think you deserve a break.
Dean, you're da man. Thanks again for your help. Now, take a break :-)
Dean,
You've done more than your share of the heavy lifting, so your break is well earned. Why not "subcontract" future requests to other bloggers? I'd be glad to help a few others get MT up and running. I'm not willing to do it 40 times, mind you, but if enough other volunteers sign up, no one person will have to do nearly that much anyway.
Indeed (in my best Reynolds voice). Great work, Dean, it's greatly appreciated. But definitely time to take a breather. Xrlq's idea, by the way, is a great one.
I truly appreciate all you've done, especially considering where I was before (i.e., not BlogSpot). This new server and MT are the coolest ever.
I feel a sorta connection to the bloggers in the list, in a funny way. We all benefited from the generosity of one guy.
Yeah, it's like we're all one big happy family. We should have a picnic...seriously, you're doing all of us a service, Dean.
Wow! Does Kevin have all these listed on the defector list? (Or all the ones that came off BlogSplat) I am not sure he even has this many total so far over there.
Heh...are we all "Dean's Kids" now?
Thanks again Dean! Take a break, pass the baton.
I tried to refer to Dean as my blogOb/Gyn, but he's going for "Godfather," and I think it would be best to respect his wishes. Unless we want to sleep with the fishes.
Blog Godfather works. I'm keen on the picnic idea. If you come through the Bay Area in - hang on - four years, Dean, I'll buy you a beer.
Just wondering what is sooo much better about MT. I've looked at it, but you know the fact I have my own host, and don't have to worry about software, updates, and installing.. makes sence to me, but who knows I could move over, just interested in getting all the facts.
Ya know what, Forge? If what you have is working for you and you're happy with it, why change?
My problem has been with Blogger, and particularly BlogSpot, because I'm sick and tired of archives disappearing, permalinks not working, comments breaking, etc. for bloggers whose work I really like. That's all.
MT is sort of like a big old Cadillac: a very full-featured and roomy ride. Is a Cadillac the best choice for everyone? Nope. It's just one I like, and works really well in my experience. Plus, I know how to install it on Verve Hosting and on Hosting Matters. That's it.
I mean, seriously, if you're happy with what you've got, and everything works, more power to ya.
Awesome work - Blogging is back to a pleasurable experience for me. Thanks for all that you've done, Dean.
Hi, I would be interested in shifting to moveable type, but I would need help. I've only been blogging for about a week, so I have little in the way of archives. So erm, who do I go to for help?
Due to a technical issue I can't move until at least next week.
Hey Al. Check your email.
Kewl bro .. I fell your pain. I really hate going to a page and click 5 times to get it to load. Its funny your on verve. I found them about 2 yrs ago and have hook ~5 ppl up with sites. I looked at MT, but just didn't have the time to install it. I'll take another look when I get some time. Maybe then (in like a month of so I'll ask you for some help).
Hehehe nad thx for replying I was just real interested in your reason for moving.
Also I'm a little miffed at Blogger right now. I signed up for Pro cuz I wanted the new interface, only to be told my blog will be "moved over soon". I was told that 3 weeks ago.
Aw, shucks. It looks like I'm a little late for the free offer, but I think I'll be all right if I just knew some people I could ask questions of if I have issues. It sounds like there might be some common issues, and if there was a list of them and their fixes, that would be something helpful.
In any case, I still need to figure out hosting. I'll give Verve a look, as Go Daddy won't play with MT...
Thanks again Dean. Just wanted to join all the others who really appreciate what you did to make this move possible.
