Welcome to One Hand Clapping Fans

I was honored to see that Donald Sensing gave Dean's World a nice plug recently. I welcome those of you who are visiting because of that.

There are some writers who you love because they match all your prejudices. There are others you love because they challenge you constantly. There are those you love because they make you laugh.

But then there are those you love because they are informative, thought-provoking, and compelling, while rarely being hyperbolic, formulaic, or tortuous. Sensing is just such a writer. There are times when I wonder why he hasn't already been offered a fat contract to write a book. Or three. I'm honored by his notice.

Having said that, you should all go read the following by Sensing: In Technology Beyond belief, he discusses how American technology matters quite a bit less on the battlefield than some people think.

His piece mates particularly well, as it happens, with this article on Why Arab Armies Lose Wars, which Dean's World regulars may remember from a couple of months ago.

The short form: Our training methodologies and command structure are our biggest advantages, not our technology.

Donald is my favorite Christian, and that's coming from an unbeliever!

For me this comes under the category of "duhhh", but then I've been boning up on Dunnigan & Nofi, and Pournelle, for years. Heh.

The short form:
Hi-tech saves lives.
Training wins wars.
Amateurs study tactics; professionals study logistics.
