You all remember this from Fruitcake & Flowers
"On March 7, 2003, Janeane Garofalo appeared on The Factor with Bill O'Reilly. She promised, if the war went well, she would apologize to President G.W. Bush."
Well, surprise, surprise, surprise!!!!
She WON'T apologize.
She is quoted as saying this:
"I have nothing to apologize for," she told WABC Radio's Steve Malzberg, who requested an interview with the comedian-turned-peacenik for his Sunday morning broadcast.
Garofalo boasted that her upcoming TV show on ABC was going forward despite a tidal wave of complaints received by the network.
"Boycotters are welcome to keep giving me tons of publicity," she dared before reiterating, "There will be no apologies."
She said that this has been great for her career and she couldn't be happier.
WELL, GOOD FOR HER!
WAY TO MAKE MONEY! FUCK INTEGRITY! YOU GOT A SERIES ON ABC!
I hope all the kiddies are paying attention. Honor and integrity are passe' these days.
And they say there are no GOOD role models left on the Left...
Maybe she's pose nude on the cover of Entertainment Weekly.
she'll, not she's
In her defense, one of her conditions was that WMDs would be found.
While evidence of WMD programs has been found, and evidence that WMDs were sent out-of-country to Syria has been produced, and evidence of defiance of WMD prohibitions was and is ample, we still haven't actually found any WMDs.
She's got her moral loophole, despite the fact that all her other predictions were utterly wrong.
O'REILLY: If you are wrong? and if the United States - and they will, this is going to happen - goes in, liberates Iraq [with] people in the street, American flags, hugging our soldiers? you gonna apologize to George W. Bush?
GARAFALO [sic]: I would be so willing to say, "I'm sorry". I hope to God that I can be made a buffoon of, that people will say, "You were wrong. You were a fatalist". And I will go to the White House on my knees on cut glass and say, "Hey, you and Thomas Friedman were right? I shouldn't have doubted you?"
No mention of WMD's, Dean. Normally I agree with you, but she doesn't even have a loophole.
Actually Dean, I don't think so. I paraphrased what was said - notice in my original there was no direct quoting. In this thread I quoted only me.
She said she will not apologize. She gave no reason other than this notoriety has made her more famous. It's been good for her career...
Thank you John.
That was the exact quote that I heard. Notice no exact mention of WMD's so no moral loophole.
Not that she would care for a "moral" anything.
Coupla years ago, my wife and I were lost in New York City. We asked a woman who was walking a dog where the nearest subway stop was. She told us, but, she made us feel like assholes.
My wife said to me, "Do you know who that was? That was Janeane Garafalo!" All I said was, "I don't know who Janeane Garafalo is, but that girl is a bitch."
Note: I can't say for sure whether that woman in New York was Janeane Garafalo. But I can say that Janeane Garafalo is a bitch. For sure.
I seem to remember 2 conditions in her pledge to apologize:
1.) Iraqis glad to see us
2.) WMDs
So...fruitcake but no flowers. Or versa vice.
I'm just saying.
Ara, the text of her "pledge" is quoted verbatim by me just a couple of posts ago. No mention of WMD's.
She was asked if the Iraqi people welcomed us, would she apologize. She said yes she would. Short form, no WMD's involved.
I shake my head, but I'm not really surprised. All I can say is that if anyone is actually holding their breath waiting for anyone on the left to actually apologise for being wrong, they're going to be turning a nice shade of Gamilon blue in short order. Particularly the "Hollywood" left.
Nobody is holding his breath, but it is right and proper to point out the hypocrisy, ignorance, and stupidity of these egomaniacal airheads.
John, Rosemary:
You are simply wrong about the Garofalo/O'Reilly exchange. Sorry.
Go here and read this:
O’Reilly: “If you are wrong, all right, and if the United States -- and they will, this is going to happen -- goes in, liberates Iraq, people in the street, American flags, hugging our soldiers, all right, we find all kinds of bad, bad stuff, [emphasis added] all right, in Iraq, you gonna apologize to George W. Bush?”
Garofalo: “I would be so willing to say I’m sorry, I hope to God that I can be made a buffoon of, that people will say you were wrong, you were a fatalist, and I will go to the White House on my knees on cut glass and say, hey, you were right, I shouldn’t have doubted you. But I think to think that is preposterous.”
William, Michael:
Chill. There have been at least a couple of liberals who admitted they were wrong about the war. Kristof was one, but you might not be able to find his mea culpa because the Times yanks their stuff after one week and makes you pay to read it.
As if.
Eric Alterman was another.
"Don't make me stop this car!"

Ara,
Somehow that wasnt in my clip, don't know why not. But 'bad, bad stuff?' And you suggest this only means WMD's? How about hospitals where their primary work was lopping the ears off of people to punish them? How about mass gravesties littering the country? Two words for ya Ara, "children's prisons!" So I guess I'm not "simply wrong" now.
Don't defend her, she's on her own. I used to really like Janeane Garafolo, but she has proven to be a self-serving, lying sack o' crap.
Bad, bad stuff did not specifically mean WMD's. We found all kinds of bad, bad stuff. Not counting the children's prison - there were and continue to be bad things found all the time.
I'm sure you inferred WMD's but...if you want to be literal she's a souless, lying sack of crap. Where'd I hear that one before?????
~Who cares? People make mistakes. Janeane Garafalo is human. Why are "white-wingers" so quick to point out even the smallest error? I think Janeane Garafalo is a wonderful person and a genuine celebrity who has not fallen prey to the meniality of primadonnism nor did she sell-out like Christina Ricci and Drew Barrymore. ... And I'd imagine that Ms. Garafalo would be a demon in the sack! lol Does that last comment null my validity? I don't care, she can be on top of me anyday! :)
guess what ??? the war ... the one that hasn't really ended ... that we are locked in a slowly attrition in ... where are soldiers are dying daily ... and it's sept 22, 2003 ... no wmd ...
.5 trillion dollars in debt ...
She did have nothing to apologize for ...
but you have plenty.
All I ever hear are right-wingers crying that "liberals never apologize, they aren't good role-models, blah, blah, blah..." but I never see right-wing pundits apologize when they are wrong, either. It seems to me that broadcast media was full of right-wing talking heads telling the nation that the Iraqis would welcome us with open arms, and we would find massive caches of WMDs to boot. Now it appears that the WMD programs had collapsed long before we arrived, and while most Iraqis are glad to be rid of Hussein, they don't want us to be an occupying force, either. So what is the exit strategy? Oops, it looks like we don't have one. In the meantime, the right wing now is trying to justify this war by implying that the end justifies the means. Why doesn't someone from that side step up and apologize?
Now Saddam has been caught, finally! What will Janeane say now?
I am curious yellow! Osama will be caught too. Close to election time for Dubya. Which will be a remarkable and surprising thing. Not! But good riddance to Saddam.
Perhaps Janeane will apologize if Bush apologizes for both stealing the Presidency and for declaring war on Iraq....
