Well. As of next Wednesday, there'll only be five competitors left. If you haven't been watching the show, next week will be a good time to start tuning in. (Don't bother watching the Thursday night shows.)
This competition has winnowed out over 30,000 people to get down to these five. It shows. The worst performances tonight were still well beyond amateurish. By next week the competition should be most fierce, and the next five weeks the most impressive.
If I had my druthers, Carmen Rasmussen and Joshua Gracin would be the next two to go. Hearty congrats all around for having enough talent and personality to get as far as they did, hope they have interesting careers, and be done. I fear, however, that country fans and patriots will keep Joshua in the running, and that sexy little Carmen will edge out greater talents like Kimberly Locke and Trenyce based solely on her spunk and cuteness. Little Carmen might even win, although she shouldn't.
In watching tonight's competition, I can't help but think that Trenyce will probably be gone next week. Which is too bad, because I think she's simply superb. But her song choices are subtly interesting rather than show-stoppers. I also suspect that sexy little Carmen will continue for a while. Even though her talents are weaker than any of the others, she's got that fresh girly pop-star appeal. Damn it.
Kimberly Locke really does get better every week, doesn't she?
I agree with everything you just said. And I actually agreed with pretty much everything Simon said. This keeps happening. I'm not comfortable with it.
I like how they didn't show Trenyce actually having her "organic experience" since all that hair is not actually her own.
I've also heard it suggested that when Carmen makes that "O" shape with her mouth she strongly resembles a blowup doll.
The going theory 'round hyeah is that since a white female won last time, Ruben has to be the winner this time since he's the only competitor left who's neither white nor female.
I [heart] Kimberley Locke.
I agree with everything you just said.
Proof positive that you are an extremely intelligent, thoughtful, and learned human being.
;-)
Kimberly has grown on me while Reuben has done little to expand on the love I first had for him. He doesn't get better every week like some of the others - I think he's a one note man.
Carmen should be voted off tonight. Trenyce would be so much better if she picked some songs that could show her range.
K.D. Lang (Clay) does nothing for me. And I agree with Irk that it is going to be a male this time, leaving Reuben as the only choice.
For all the blather from Simon about talent, this show really isn't about talent. They are looking for somebody that can take orders and become a pop star. For all of Rubuen's and Clay's talent - do you see either of them making an album of music that appeals to the 14 year old girls that are the target audience here? Carmen may be the only one left that really fits the profile of pop star. That said, I hpoe she is gone tonight.
Josh won't win, but he will have a phat contract in Nashville waiting for him when he finishes active duty. It wouldn't surprise me if he is the first of the bunch to make a million dollars.
Carmen did well last night, for her. I still think she has a worthwhile voice but I gave up waiting for her to learn how to use it a couple weeks ago. Come back in 5 years (maybe less if she works hard). Sexy? No.
Josh's performance last night wasn't as bad as "Celebration" but that's like saying Pol Pot wasn't as bad as Mao.
But there is no way Carmen and Josh are in the same league as Kim, Ruben, Trenyce, and Clay. Unfortunately I agree with you that it's likely Trenyce will go home tonight. I will miss her. (But if we lose Kim I will probably break my new TV.)
While I agree that Carmen should probably be the one voted off tonight, I don't think she will be. The advantage that she has over some of the other contestants is that she seems to improve every week. Kimberly Locke is in the same boat. While I thought Kimberly would get voted off weeks ago, I now think she is the only female contestant left who has a chance to win.
I'm not as big on Trenyce as others on here. I was high on her in the beginning, but unlike Kimberly and Carmen, it seems her best performances are in the past. Last night, I thought she had one of her worst performances ever as she seemed to be yelling in the microphone more than singing.
Overall, last night's show wasn't one of the best. Ruben's performance was probably one of his worst as well, even though, in the eyes of the judges, he can do no wrong. That being said, a bad performance from Ruben is still better than many of the other contestants. Clay was just Clay. His performance was fine, but nothing to get excited about. Kimberly Locke probably put in the best performance last night, which probably means she'll be the one to get voted off. But I won't be disappointed if either Trenyce or Carmen get the axe.
I've never seen an episode of American Idol, nor Survivor, any of the Who's Gonna Have Sex/Get Married To Someone Else shows that seem to be going around, Weakest Link, etc. I did see one episode of Fear Factor when I was at my sister's house around Christmas and she was watching it.
Do I say all this just to somehow prove that I'm better than you people?
Yes, mostly.
Love,
Jay
Jay, you suck!
For anyone who cares, Jay's an old, old friend of mine, and you should not take him seriously. Much. ;-)
How can Trenyce and Josh even think they have a chance to be the Idol?? Josh sounds like a bad Garth Brooks and Trenyce sounds like Kermit the Frog when she sings. (Thank God Carmen the sheep is off...when she sang it was "Cant fight the moonlight noo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo"...like she was baa-aaa ing).
Clay is made for Braodway, he would be perfect there, but not for the idol. That leaves Reuben, which has been my favorite all along, and Kim, who has become one of my favorites since singing "I can't make you love me". I think it will be Reuben but who knows? I just pray its NOT Clay...he has become so cocky it is sickening.
Well what I think about American Idol is that; Carmen Rasmussen was the hottest out of all the contestants in the show. Besides she was very good at singing. She had a voice that made fall for her, her voice is what made her unique and beautiful from the inside out. I just loved her personality. Yes I know that she had some bad weeks and I don’t deny that but she was good most of the part, and I think she would have made the perfect American Idol because she had the looks the talent and everything was just right. Her personality was very sweet and likable.
Now that she was eliminated. The only girl I think will make it to the finals would be Kimberly but she isn’t that good yeah I know she cute but that is it she doesn’t have any other different quality then the other stars in the media she sounds like them and for an American Idol I would have wanted somebody different for once. That is why I liked Carmen she was so good for the role, I just fell in love with that hot blonde. Well now my favorite contestant is Ruben because he got I cool personality he is so low key and I like that, he looks like somebody that doesn’t show off his fame and is just original with himself. He is the only cool guy in the competition. I really don’t like Clay because he is too scrawny and ugly looking he looks like he is 35 years old. Yeah he is talented but just for Broadway and I don’t like the faces he does when he sings. Josh and Trenyce well their just not good I don’t like them very much. They both are talented but regular contestants. But I think the next one to be voted of will be Josh and then Trenyce. Well that is what I think about American Idol.
I LOVE YOU CARMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DOES NOT MATTER, BLACK , WHITE, MALE OR FEMALE... TALENT WILL WIN OUT.... IF IT WERE A RADIO SHOW YOU WOULD ONLY HEAR THE VOICES AND THE TALENT.. WHICH WE NEED TO FOCUS MORE ON IT... ALTHOUGH MY THOUGHTS IS THE TOP 2 RUBEN AND CLAY.. THEY BOTH ARE AWESOME HAVE KILLER VOICES, BOTH ARE ADORBALE, BOTH HAVE A HUGE FAN BASE ALREADY...ITS GONNA BE VERY TIGHT AND A CLOSE ONE... SO EVERYONE NEEDS TO GET THE BUTTS ON THE PHONE AND VOTE FOR THERE FAVES!
Watching the show throughout the series has brought my friend closer to Ruben. She is always talking about how sweet he is and she thinks that he is a big teddy bear and very loveable. She would really like to talk to him and meet him someday. She is a senior graduating from Kennard High and dreams about meeting him.
