Having a digit video recorder is a wonderful thing. You can set it to record literally hours of programming--mine holds about 40 hours--and watch anything whenever you want, with pure digital quality. Yesterday, I watched the episode of The Simpsons that aired on Sunday. I usually see every episode that way--a few days after it airs.
I've been a Simpsons fan from the very beginning. I mean, all the way back to The Tracy Ullman show back in the 1980s. And here's the thing:
Why does this show I've been watching for so many years, The Simpsons, suck so bad these days? I can't believe I even watch it anymore. It's almost like I feel I have to, like it's my weekly obligation simply because I've been watching it for so long. It's become a chore, though, just something to do in between King of the Hill and Malcolm in the Middle, which are both great shows.
But The Simpsons? Time to either pull the plug or fire everybody and start over methinks.
My wife and I looked at each other several times during the show, and shrugged as if to say "what the hell..."
It was mildly surreal, even the jokes about the French and waning British masculinity were kind of strained
Yup. Haven't even watched it lately.
I actually haven't watched it since sometime last year. I used to love the show, but I think it's ending its natural lifespan.

At some point writers run out of ideas and the characters just get played out. Happened a year or three ago with the Simpsons. I can't watch new ones. Stick to the reruns.
Awww c'mon. They've had lame streaks before. I expect they will pick up again. Meanwhile, I watch the shows and enjoy the good parts, like picking the cucumbers out of an otherwise bland salad.
The Simpsons jumped the shark about years ago. Every time I see a re-run these days it reminds me that the show has been bad now for longer than it was good.
I think The Simpsons has been bad for some time now, but after the season premier when Homer and Bart were tethered together, we finally realized just how bad the show got. It became so un-realistic that it began to inadvertantly highlight its flaws: no real plots, stupid humor, and dull political humor.
the show has been too focused on homer, it used to be about the SIMPSONS, now its just homer in every episode. thats why it sucks, when they finally get the good old family values in, involving everyone, then maybe we can finally laugh again.
In my mind the simpsons define pop culture of the 90's. So why is the show I adored for so many years turned into crap. First off the show used to have a rutune for example (Bart would go to school and get bad grades, Marge would do the house choirs, homer would be a low life drunk who worked at the powerplant etc. but about 5 years ago the creaters started to expand the main charecters plots and now they do unrealistic things. Its turned into a bogous show. The plots are so unrealistic and i hate and i mean hate when they have cleb's act as them self on the show. Some of the new episodes are good but the majority are not. I will though always remeber the clasics such as the first christmas special(not the crappy tree burning down one) Krustys father, THE side show bob cape fear episode, Mr burns baseball team, and when homer went into space, these are the great eppisodes and the onece that will be remebered in furtute decades when the simpsons are brought up.

Nothing realistic can be funny any more, look around, is it? Thats what's happened. Its not funny anymore, its just depressing. You can't laugh at Sadam anymore. You can't laugh at communists anymore. Its all turned into an escape from the reality that The Simpsons once represented. Democracy is slowly fading to Capitalism, The middle east will soon be a hole in the ocean floor and I can't go outside without passing by some nut case that I just know is going to either jack my car or turn around and call me [insert random insulting label] for no apparent reason. It's just not funny anymore. In fact, not much of anything on TV is funny anymore. Its like we've all delved into the Movie world of: cheap B comedy, preteen movies, 'Disney is the Anti-Christ, The Matrix is getting old but I watch it just to waste money, bad MARVEL based movies, and alot of gangsta racin' drug hoppin' psycho junkie on crack movies. NOTHING that even remotely resembles reality is funny anymore, so don't even think its going to get any better.
Me being a simpson believe that we are cool. I love MUSE new album and KORN.
I hate all of you. The simpsons are and always will be the best show on TV. There new episodes are great. Sure some of them are stupid but not every episode can be as good as the Hank Scorpio one. I think that if you dont like it them shut it off. All you people wining and complaining make me sick and I hope you all die. You call yourself fans go watch opra or what ever crap you want and leave the simpsons alone. If your stupidity interferes with your enjoying of the show then please kill yourselves now. Thank you
