Personal Theme Song (Rosemary)

I've had a really interesting couple of weeks. I go in for outpatient surgery. The easy type. The no worry type. The quick healing minimal pain type. The kind everyone thinks you are overreacting a bit - for being nervous type.

I'm nervous anyway because general anesthesia has some risks and I wanna wake up, you know? Plus, in general, I'm a paranoid control freak that HATES giving someone else control of my destiny.

I end up half dead, on morphine and lots of complications. Plus, I gained 10 POUNDS!

Something to do with I.V's and some such but I don't care. 10 FREAKING POUNDS!!!

My midsection looks like Herman Munster. Everytime I look down at myself I hear the theme to The Munsters.

It's not bad, the pain is manageable and the weight is gone but I still feel boxy. I have asked friends and relatives to note my personal theme song when they see me and hum it out loud, if possible. Makes me laugh.

So. Until further notice anytime you read my comments or anything else I write please hum the theme to the Munsters.

Let's all laugh about this together.

Glad to see you back, Rosemary! So sorry you had to go through all that...and an extra ten pounds would definitely make me crazy. Oh, wait, I'm already crazy...well, nevermind, then. Maybe getting fired up over some hot political issues will get that metabolism moving! Glad you're back!

Rosemary, glad you're back home, hope you can take it easy for a little while.

Ah yes, the Munsters, one of them ol' TV programs from my childhood... The theme song goes... well, sorta like this:

Hmmm hmmm, hmmm hmmm... hmmm hmmm, hmmm hmmm...
hmmm hmmm, hmmm hmmm... hmmm hmmm, hmmm hmmm...
hmmm hmmm, hmmm hmmm... hmmm hmmm, hmmm hmmm...
hmmm hmmm, hmmm hmmm... hmmm hmmm, hmmm hmmm...

It goes along like that for a while, and I forget what comes in the middle, and then it winds up:

Doo, doo dee doo dee doo, doo dee doo... doo dee doo doo... doo DOO!

:-)

You've been malingering long enough!

Welcome back. :)

Whew. Now I can exhale.

That's a relief.

Glad you're back. Missed you.

Good to hear you are recovering. Make Dean wait on you hand and foot for a few days; sounds like you deserve a vacation.

Cue theme song from "The Munsters."

Rosemary, congratulations and best wishes on a full & speedy recovery. I had my very first surgery - EVER - just three months ago, age 36, and was very, very, very nervous -- same as you, afraid of not being "in control" and not waking up, etc, despite the fact that it was an extremely routine appendectomy. The upside: everything went *perfectly* -- and I would almost enjoy going through the entire thing again, just for the sheer novelty!

Again - best wishes to you & Dean.

A year and a half ago I had my first surgery -- gall bladder removal (it died and had to be pulled).

After I was back in the hospital room I thought I was back to normal but was apparently doped up just a little bit more than I thought. Because one of the first things I said when my wife and two new kids (we'd had them for about a month on the way to adopting them) arrived in the room was, "Wanna see my catheter?!"

And I whipped back the blankets.

Everytime I think I have things under control my wife reminds me of that and wonders what else I may have done before they arrived there. :)
