One of the most horrific urban legends of the last decade has been the vile slander put out by certain feminist groups that Superbowl Sunday is the most violent day for women in America. Supposedly, more women are battered on that day by their husbands or boyfriends than on any other day.
This claim is categorically false. No such increase has ever been found by any responsible researcher who's looked into the matter. Crisis centers and battered women's shelters also uniformly deny seeing any such increase, as do police departments around the nation.
It also happens to be the case that men in general are significantly more likely to be the victims of violence than women are--which doesn't negate the problem of women being battered, but is certainly a perspective that doesn't get aired enough.
In any case, if you hear this bizarre factoid uttered by someone, you might want to set people straight. For more specific references and figures on this, see Richard Bennett's piece here.

Bravo Dean, I am glad not all men have been castrated by feminists and political correctness. at times in todays society being a masculine male is looked at as a negative thing. this cracks me up to no end. i understand as a species we must evolve beyond cavemen, but it seems that some groups would certainly like to force the evolution along faster than its going. some will say i'm a fool. maybe its the testosterone screwing me up?
Dean, I don't think you really read what I wrote in my pain in the ass long article. I wanted to make sure you didn't miss this quote:
"Now, his point was that violence against men should receive more press. (I'm not trying to dog poor Dean here). When it comes to DOMESTIC violence against men, I couldn't agree more."
And yet still you argue with me? I really don't get it.
I think it sucks that radicals for ANY issue are spreading lies and propaganda. But just because of some rhetoric-spewing fanatics, that doesn't mean that the underlying issue isn't important. Whether the victim is male or female, our society needs to do something about this UNDERREPORTED problem that isn't really taken seriously when it is reported (especially if men do the reporting, AS I SAID IN MY ENTRY).
I never meant to dog you, but you were so quick to jump to offense I don't really think you got the meaning of my article.
Your hostility is surprising and disappointing. I'm sorry I offended you, and I don't know HOW anyone could be offended by what I wrote, but since I'm obviously on your "bad side" now, and since you obviously have a very low opinion of women (you know, us "bitches who all laughed about lorena bobbit"), I will not dirty your site with my presence. I doubt if you will be shedding many tears ;-)
