Wow, a whole article about cat-sucking, loud toilets. As if there aren't more important things for that journalist to write about. Sigh. I guess with all the social injustices, talks of war, small pox, nuclear weapons, cows and chickens living torturous lives before being slaughtered for food...I guess we sometimes just need to read about annoyingly loud toilets.

Journalists have a responsibility to cover the less serious subjects as well as the more serious subjects.

Surely cat sucking toilets, and the implications thereof are more significant to the world than the score of a high school football game, or the obituary of a 79 year old man who is unknown to one and all of the living, or the second wedding of Fred and Martha, or what have you.

And obviously ALL of that is more important than the free ad for the church rummage sale.

If you think covering anything but the most dire news is irresponsible or frivolous, perhaps you need to re-examine your medication levels. :)

Hey, now, I resemble that remark.

Greetings
I noticed this article also...and wondered 1) is this something that people do in Alaska - I mean how does he know the toilet can suck a cat down; and 2) has anybody contacted PETA for a comment, maybe future banning of these toilets?

Cheers

Does anyone remember those videos that promised to teach you how to train your cat to use the toilet?

How long before we see this on America's Funniest Videos?

I think it's sad that America's Funniest Videos is still on television.

Trinity,
Have you ever tried watching that show without the laugh track and the sound effects? The already low "funny" factor drops dramatically.

Paul:

Furthermore, what's pathetic is the unusually high percentage of obviously staged vignettes.

Kind of a "pre-Jackass" thing if you ask me.

Heh. That's exactly why I don't watch t.v.: the laugh tracks and sound effects. I don't need a cue to know when to laugh. Surprisingly, I try to explain this to people who think it's weird that I don't watch t.v., and many of them have no idea what I mean by "laugh track". I just can't think of anything more passive and subordinate than sitting on my couch for hours, staring at the t.v. that has been programmed especially for me. Watch friends and it's astounding the amount of tampon commercials and cooking commercials geared towards the women audience. Maybe I want to see commercials on jackhammers? They assume too much and try to dictate the norm. So I don't watch. It's too close to mind control for my tastes.

And I think you're right, too, Ara, about many of America's Funniest videos being staged. It was a good concept, way back when, to send in your videotapes, to see the really rare "good shot" of something hilarious. But everything is taped now...look at how many videos we had for September 11th. Everyone has cameras.

It's just not funny anymore!

What's really sad is that this comment is on a post for "cat sucking toilets" and we end up talking about AFV and laugh tracks. Heh.
