Taken for Granted

Oh, by the way: I would argue that this is what happens when one political party owns your vote. (Thanks to Robin Goodfellow for the link.)

"They've got to do a better job of leveraging black voting power," Walters said. "You have to shake things up to get what you want."

Interesting how the black politicians have to be responsible for "leveraging black voting power", rather than being responsible for just being good politicians and able to leverage voting power regardless of race. Apparently black politicians are only needed to leverage black votes, they're just tokens, they can't be legitimate leaders. And by subtle implication a black politician can't leverage non-black votes (or at least they're not needed to do so, so they shouldn't concentrate on doing so).
