The Council on Foreign Relations has released a report saying that a number of private and charity groups in Saudi Arabia supply considerable funds to terrroist groups, and that the Saudi government has habitually looked the other way.
Uhm. Yeah.
It's tempting for those of us who read and analyze the news constantly to sniff at this report as old news. But this report is a good thing. The CFR is a respected independent, non-partisan group--in fact, it mostly leans to the left. This report lends substantial credibility to Saudi critics. On the other hand, it also rebuffs the conspiracy-minded who claim that the Saudi government is directly behind everything.
The Sauds are going to answer for their behavior soon. They've made their own bed, having spent decades playing two opposing forces against each other. There's going to be hell to pay methinks, and sooner than some people realize.
