Two Quotes

That old saw about "To understand all is to forgive all" is a lot of tripe. Some things, the more you understand the more you loathe them.

---

Girl: My mother says that violence never settles anything.

Teacher: "I'm sure the city fathers of Carthage would be glad to know that. Why doesn't your mother tell them so? Or why don't you?"

The above written by a reactionary old lunatic who no one should ever read, let alone think about.

I actually used that exact argument against my mother when she told me that violence never solved anything. (I grew up in an intellectual family, so I knew about Rome and Carthage when I was 8) I got a "Don't talk back to your mother!" as a response. :)

I'm worried; I knew who you were talking about without looking, Dean! And I haven't (re)read the book in years...

What does that make me?

And they totally ruined the book with that stupid "Bug Wars" movie...

I grok the fullness of that reference.
