Elvis Is Everywhere

In 1977, on the day Elvis Presley died, there were three people who worked as Elvis impersonators. Three years after his death, there were over 500. By 1985, there were over 10,000 living, breathing tributes to The King around the world. By the year 1990 that number had more than quadrupled, and quadrupled again by 1995. Today, the numbers have grown to the point where they can no longer be reliably tracked, but it's believed that there is not a country in the world without at least one public, living tribute to The King every week.

Scientists estimate that if the current unchecked rate of growth continues, by the year 2030 we will all be Elvis.

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeell

Elvis is everywhere, Elvis is everythiiiiing!
Elvis is everybody, Elvis is still the king
Man oh man, what I want you to see
Is that the big E's inside of you and me!

Elvis is everywhere, man! He's in everything...
He's in the young, the old, the fat, the skinny,
the white, the black the brown---and the blue
people got Elvis in 'em too

Man, there's a lot of unexplained phenomena
out there in the world, lot of things where people say
"What the heck's goin' on?" Let me tell ya:

Who built the pyramids? ELVIS!
Who built Stonehenge? ELVIS!

Yeah man, you see guys walking down the street
pushing shopping carts, and you think they're talking to Allah,
or talking to themselves? No man they're talking to ELVIS! ELVIS! ELVIS!

Yeah man, you know people from outer space,
people from outer space, they come up to me,
They don't look like like Doctor Spock.
They don't look like Klingons, all that Star Trek jive.

No man, they look like Elvis. ELVIS!
Everybody in outer space looks like Elvis!
'Cuz Elvis is the perfect being!
We're all moving in perfect peace and harmony towards Elvisness

Soon all will become Elvis. Everything everywhere will be Elvis.
Why do you think they call it evolution anyway? It's really Elvislution!

Elvis is everywhere, Elvis is everythiiiing!
Elvis is everybody, Elvis is still the king
Man o man, what I want you to see
Is that the big E's Inside of you and me!

See, I thought that had already happened.

You mean... I'm NOT Elvis?!

Thangyewverruhmuch...

Speaking of Elvis impersonators, I understand that Andy Kaufman was one of those early ones, if not one of the three you're referring to. And I also understand that Elvis thought he rocked.

Fortunately, there are predators to cull the herd.

I remember one summer evening in the '70's turning on the TV and seeing Elvis or so I thought until his song ended and out came Dick Van Dyke to thank his guest who lapsed into a vaguely foreign persona and meekly said, "Thank you very much". I couldn't stop laughing at the absurd juxtaposition (a phrase that wasn't in my eleven year old vocabulary). I didn't realize until much later that I was witnessing a classic TV moment in the making. I later learned that somewhere in Memphis a consummate TV junkie was watching the same show and loved the performance more than I did. It has been said many times that Andy Kaufman's impersonation was the only one Elvis could stomach. I fear we shall not see their like again any time soon.

"Elvis isn't dead; he just went home..." saith K.

Dean, I didn't know you were a Mojo Nixon fan. Did you know he's working at WEBN here in Cincinnati now? You can catch them via the web at http://www.webn.com.

I'm glad to hear Mojo's working. His recording careeer has never caught on like it deserves. Working as a DJ who occasionally records novelty records seems like a great niche for him.

I wish that link to the "Elvis is Everywhere" video actually worked. I see it's down. Too bad, it's one funny song.
