Another Black Republican Hopeful

Every two years, two or three hopeful black Republicans run for Congress. Invariably, no one at the NAACP, the Urban League, the Congressional Black Caucus, or anyone else in the black political establishment gives them any support--moral, financial, or otherwise. If they get anything, they get smeared as Toms. And completely ignored by leftists pretending to be centrists while they bemoan the supposedly terrible race record of the Republicans.

Still, the wall will crack sooner or later. It has to, if there's ever to be any more real progress on race in America. The Wall Street Journal has published a very nice piece on the black Republican who looks to have the best chance of winning a House seat this year: Joseph Holland.

It is, of course, without question that any press accounts from the likes of the New York Times will contain countless snide comments about him and/or his party. It's also without question that he'll get no support from the national black political establishment. And, of course, he's still running an uphill race.

But those of us who truly believe in the ideals of Martin Luther King will cross our fingers and wish him luck. And keep hoping that J.C. Watts comes out of retirement and runs for the Senate or Governor in the next few years.

In 2000, a bright young female black Republican from the deep south ran for congress. She had an impressive background, very temperate and was quite articulate in her positions and differences during the campaign.

Her opponent, the incumbent, consistently played the race card and implied that Warren wasn't 'black enough'. Her opponent was Cynthia McKinney.

McKinney won the endorsement of the Atlanta Constitution (as she always had) and the election. Seems as though the race card isn't so bad when it's used against a black Republican by a complete loon.

There's also another black Republican running for Congress -- Lynette Boggs McDonald of Nevada.

Why is every Black Republican against Affirmative Action?

Is that part of the criteria for being a Republican?

Here we are in the 21st century and we still behave as if there are certain viewpoints that Black people "should not have". I believe that Black conservatives should be supported by the Black community. Diversity has always been our strength, and this should be reflected in our politics.
