God BLESS Amurricah
Alert Dean's World denizen and zymurgic gourmand Paul Fallon recently unearthed this fabulous article that any real American should, nay, must read!
My heart swells with pride. God bless America, land that I looooove...
You magnificant bastard!
One more piece of evidence (as if it were needed) that one does not have to be a wine-lover to be a conaisseur of drinks.
One of the less-heralded brands that should have been mentioned in the article is Genesee Cream Ale, from Genesee, New York.
While Mr. Rudin did mention Cincinnati, he gave our city short shrift. Not only as the home of the first professional baseball team, but as the home of some of the finest regional breweries in the country.
While he did mention breweries in the city, in passing, a simple respect would have obliged him to recall the names Schoenling (best known for their "Little Kings" Cream Ale) and Hudepohl ("14-K!") beer.
An interesting bit of trivia: The US armed forces bases in Bavaria are one of the biggest importers of Budweiser in the world. Talk about taking coal to Newcastle...
And on a parting note: it seems that the executives of all the worlds major beer manufacturers once came together in conference. At meal time each exec (naturally) ordered his own brew; the Miller president ordered Miller, the fellow from Guiness ordered his Stout, and so on, until they came to the President of Heineken, who proceeded to order a Pepsi!
While all the other beer leaders goggled at him, he gazed calmly back and said "If none of you are going to drink a real beer, neither shall I..."
Ha!
I remember Little Kings! I used to love that stuff, although it was always a little hard to find in Chicago, and I've never seen it here in Detroit Metro.
