Low Fat Diet Fad Reeling
Those of you who've known me for a while know I've got this "thing" about low-fat diets. They're baloney. They have only moderate weight-maintenance benefits at best, and certainly do not reduce the risk of heart disease. You might think I'm crazy, but a growing number of scientists and physicians are seeing it the same way.
I was pleased to see that the New York Times publish a recent article finally taking a hard look at the issue. That puts them only five years behind loyal Denizens of Dean's World. Not bad for the Grey Lady. (Thanks to wunderkind Jerry Kindall for the link.)
Replacing fat with carbs does little good. Lower the fat intake & moderate the carb intake while increasing the protein intake helps.
But attempting to lose body fat (not weight, as muscle is premium) via diet alone & without exercise is usually a losing proposition.
