We should note that on the link that Paul posts, some Palestinians are claiming the picture is only a "joke." You can decide for yourself what you think of a joke like that. The Maya Alleruzzo picture isn't a joke by anyone's claim.

Take a quick second and click over to Postmodern Politics.

(Click on the link above and it will open in a new window...)

You'll see an example of the difference between a joke and "a joke."

Dean,

This photo illustrates what I call the utter short-sighted stupidity exhibited by Arab governments throught the ME. These Palestinians are incapable of realizing that their stupid terrorist actions will only make them appear more impossible and more intransigent than ever.

They are incapable of seeing that they only further isolate themselves from the west and the civilized world in general adopting such horrific tactics.

Respectfully,

Kevin Brehmer

Maya Alleruzzo is my daughter, and I'm honored to learn from her through the images she captures, and despite sleepless nights spent worrying for her safety while she's on assignments.

I shared those photos with a Palestinian neighbor, also a photographer, in California, hoping to bridge a gap between neighbors that evolved after 9/11. I expressed some concern about why she was permitted to shoot in the Al Aqsa training camp, which made him angry ("Why wouldn't they let her in?", he asked). His take on it was that the images accurately captured the sad passing of the war torch to the next generation.

Maya's talents have always been her ability to communicate with diverse groups of people, her idealism, and an intense concern for the underpriviledged. Because of those gifts she's able to enlighten the rest of us through the images she captures. Thank you for your appreciation of her work.

Sincerely,
Meredith Alleruzzo
