After the depressing news of the latest assault on democracy and religious pluralism by western courts, it's something of a relief to hear that at least the Supreme Court finally has regained some of its common sense.
Left-wing extremist groups like People for the American Way and the American Civil Liberties Union have been battling in court for years against freedom of choice in education. They've been using the exact same kind of twisted logic that was used to ban the Pledge of Allegiance, only this time using it to justify taking away the right of local communities and individuals to decide educational funding issues. Their claim has been that allowing individual parents to decide how their school tax dollars will be spent violates 1st amendment "rights."
I'm pleased to say that the Supreme Court threw that out like the selfish, elitist garbage it was. Good news indeed. I begin to have hope once again for the future of public education. They've got a long way to go, but this is the first step on the journey.
It is about time, it is about time. Hooray & I too have hope since my most of my grandchildren are now in public schools. Hooray!!!!!
Truely tremendous blog!
