In other news: I keep seeing public-service announcements urging Americans to restrain from prejudice and "stop the hate," presumably to warn us all against attacking our fellow Americans who happen to be (or just look) Arabic. But as Brit Hume Reports, anti-Arab violence in the U.S. is virtually nonexistant.
My first comment: Our focus on hate is in the wrong place, innit?
My second comment: If we stopped importing Saudi oil, the U.S. oil industry would reap windfall profits. So why are we being so nice to the Saudis? Why are we pretending they are our allies, rather than people who are responsible for much of the hate that caused September 11? And who continue to stoke the flames?

The reason the gov't keeps us tied to Mid-East oil is simple; they want the Arab nations tied to our money. I think the theory is that being dependant on American dollars makes them more amenable to work with us, lest we remove them from the Middle Eastern economy.
I'm not yet convinced the theory is proving out, :D.
