In Susan B. Anthony's Footsteps is a feminist group dedicated to changing perceptions about abortion. Because they are pro-life, they predictably face kneejerk, reactionary, paint-by-numbers rants: they want to oppress women, they hate themselves as women, they're religious extremists, they're sick, they want to enslave women, to turn back the clock, and so on. "If you see one of them showing their disgusting videos or playing with toy fetuses, do your part and spit at them. Kick them in the head," writes one of their critics. There's liberal tolerance if I ever saw it.
I think the Susan B. Anthony group demonstrate something important about feminism: that if it's really okay for a woman to think for herself, it's okay to refuse to walk in lock-step with anyone's party line, on this or any other issue.
