To be fair, Dean, this yellowcake is all old news, all known and reported long ago, even if some people have long since forgotten. The article points out that they found no evidence of any post-1991 yellowcake (which, of course, is not the same as finding evidence of no post-1991 yellowcake). We all knew that Saddam pursued nuclear capabilities.
I applaud the team of professionals for pulling this off. I agree that it shows evidence of Saddam’s intentions. But I don’t see it changing the debate at all, because this material was already factored into the debates over time. Anyone surprised by its existence wasn’t paying attention.
There was no evidence of any yellowcake dating from after 1991, the official said.
Well, no new yellowcake or anything. I am sure that if we had forgotten about it long enough he may have made a weapon with it, provided we was able to get away with building a centrifuge to turn it into weapons grade uranium and get it into an arsenal.
Everyone knew Iraq had this yellowcake. It was under IAEA seal until the IAEA was kicked out in the late 90s (this is when the Clinton administration bombed Iraq for a few days). It was one of the reasons the Niger yellowcake story sounded bogus. Iraq did not need to buy yellowcake if they wanted to restart their nuclear program. They already had more than enough.
Ironically, when the US started its invasion, this yellowcake was still sealed. The UN inspectors had just left Iraq and had verified it was still there. Even though the US knew exactly where it was, the US army did not get to the site for weeks after Baghdad fell. In that time looters broke into the bunkers and could have stolen some of the yellowcake. Thankfully, none was really taken.
Martin: I know, I’m just snarking on the people who keep insisting there was no nuclear program and/or no yellowcake. As Mikeca notes, the very fact that it was there was just another reason to laugh at the Joe Wilson groupies, who seem to either think there was no significant nuclear program in Iraq, or, that there would be any reason other than obtaining yellowcake in Niger since Niger doesn’t have anything else (and Saddam would have wanted to keep what he’d shown to the UN where they could see it, and just obtain more they wouldn’t know about).
I remember going through a whole year of having "yellowcake" shoved in my face by the BDS-afflicted. It got old, almost as fast as the "Downing Street Memo" stupidity (and boy was THAT stupid).
When the history of this administration is written, people will hardly remember any of these supposed scandals.

This is like 42 goalpost moves ago
And this is on top of the 2 tons of enriched uranium hauled out of there 4 or 5 years ago.
For the radical Islamic terrorist, Mecca was in Iraq, not Saudi Arabia.
