A day in the life…
10:20 AM me: http://www.overheardintheoffice.com/archives/006421.html
Ronald: What is my obligation to you, as a friend, to click on a URL that you send to me via IM?
10:21 AM me: haha
It’s about the same as my obligation, to you, to send every last link that I think you’ll find interesting or amusing. So… roughly 10%
Ronald: LOL
Just wondering
10:22 AM me: Oh sure. Top scientists in the field of etiquette were working on that very question. 10% is what their research suggests.
Ronald: Are these the same guys as global warming?
me: Naw.
these are Emily-post docs.
10:23 AM Ronald: LOL
10:26 AM me: I’m going to post this exchange on Dean’s, BTW.
Ronald: Go to town, baby!
This is what Dean’s world Front-pagers talk about when readers aren’t around. For the record: I send Ron (and everyone on my IM list) a _lot_ of links…

I’m often surprised when you don’t post them here.
If only 10% of interesting links get sent, and 10% of those get clicked, then the propogation rate is only 1%?
Dean: That’s because… No idea why. It’s harder to post an article than send a link– and often times I don’t have anything more to say than “interesting”…
Maniakes:
Yes.
But (to pick one example), My GF gets about 20 links a day from me. Of course, she tends to click more than Ron does, but she still doesn’t click on many. And if you were on Gtalk, you’d get your share also

Actually I click on just about everything PP sends me. It’s just kinder usually to pretend I didn’t.
